We’ve been hard at work focusing on making Charitable easier to use, especially for new users – and also including some nice behind-the-scenes updates for more experienced users and developers. That’s why we’re excited to announce the new updates to Charitable!
Charitable Checklist
New users can go through a checklist to familiarize themselves with Charitable and create their first campaign as quickly as possible.
This checklist will provide an overview of Charitable while allowing you to confirm and update general settings, as well as enable emails and hook up your payment gateway (we highly recommend using Stripe, which can be done directly from the checklist page itself).
If you’re looking for a quick way to get an overview of what Charitable can do for you and launch your first campaign fast, give the checklist a try.
We hope this new onboarding feature helps make using Charitable a better experience. If you have feedback or questions about this, please let us know.
(Improved) Guided Tour of Visual Campaign Builder
In 1.8.1.4 of Charitable, we introduced a guided tour of the visual campaign builder. In 1.8.2 we gave it a polish based on our testing and feedback from users – you could say it’s a “version 2” of the guided tour. It is more interactive and highlights areas that new users should know about. The tour also improves for users in additional browsers and screen sizes.
Donation Button Shortcode
If you work with shortcodes and just need a simple button, then the new[charitable_donate_button]
shortcode allows you to display a button or link to a campaign. You can read up on the parameters you can pass into it – and we plan on turning this into a block (for the WordPress block editor) in the future.
Other Updates
Outside of what I just mentioned above, here’s a list of items that are a part of the “changelog” for 1.8.2.
- NEW: Warning messages for admin users – in the gateway settings page and viewing donation forms (as admins) – if Stripe is enabled, but no keys are detected.
- NEW: Dashboard notifications for important messages and notices.
- NEW: Added ‘charitable_email_fields_donation_field_value’ filter which can help with the output of custom field values in emails.
- NEW: Campaigns shortcode now has a new “description_limit” parameter that limits words displayed from the campaign description.
- NEW: Added both a filter and an option (in beta) in the general setting tab to disable showing a login form or registration reminder on donation forms. We have a new doc page that covers the details.

- UPDATED: Campaigns shortcode now displays a photo and campaign description from campaigns built with the visual builder.
